Hi neighbors,

Stacey and I attended the Community School of Davidson graduation this week at Belk Theater, and watching those graduates walk across the stage got me thinking about how much can change in a year.

Last May, Lily graduated from NC State. Since then, she’s started her career at Vanguard, gotten engaged, and is now under contract on her first house. Somewhere in there, she also found time to make us feel old.

It’s funny how slowly life can feel in the middle of it, then you look back and realize everything is different.

I was talking with a colleague this week who was deciding between helping host an open house or spending the day playing softball with his family. My advice was easy: go play softball. You’ll forget the open house. You won’t forget the day with your family, and neither will they.

Maybe that’s what graduation season reminds us. The years keep moving, whether we’re paying attention or not. Hope everyone has a great week and gets a little time with the people who matter most.

🥩 The Kindreds are building a steakhouse on Main Street

The Gist: Joe and Katy Kindred, the Davidson restaurateurs behind Kindred, Hello, Sailor, Albertine, and Milkbread, announced in late May that their next restaurant, Deepwell, will open in downtown Mooresville this fall at 185 N. Main St. in the former JJ Wasabi’s building.

Why It Matters: Downtown Mooresville has been quietly transforming over the past five years, and adding the Kindreds is the loudest signal yet that the south Iredell food scene is now playing in the same league as Davidson.

What's Next: Deepwell is expected to open in late summer or early fall 2026, roughly the same time the flagship Kindred reopens in Davidson after small-fire repairs.

🎉 Mecklenburg celebrates healthier habits

The Gist: Mecklenburg County Public Health is hosting a free MeckMoves Field Fest on June 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Eastway Regional Recreation Center. The event wraps up a 16-week fitness challenge where more than 400 neighbors tracked their health, built new habits, and cheered each other on along the way.

Why It Matters: This is the good stuff: families, friends, and church groups moving more, feeling better, and helping each other stick with it. If you want to join the celebration, you can register online or call 980-314-9675. And if you missed this round, keep an eye out for the next community challenge coming this fall.

🍷 Where sunset views meet the perfect pour

18665 Harborside Dr,
Cornelius

The former Port City Club space has found its second act. Now operating as LakeHouse Wine Bar & Grill, this waterfront spot has 22 boat docks, a year-round patio, and west-facing views that make it easy to settle in and stay awhile.

The menu has the right celebratory feel for Father’s Day, with steaks and seafood taking center stage. Highlights include the LakeHouse Old Fashioned, fresh hamachi crudo, and a popular shrimp and lobster roll. Reservations are recommended.

🏎️ Revving up some timeless summer memories

769 River Hwy, Mooresville

A remarkable collection of over 100 vintage vehicles at Memory Lane Museum makes for a perfect summer destination. The floor to ceiling display spans legendary NASCAR stock cars preserved in their raw, race finished condition alongside famous Hollywood movie rides, classic hot rod roadsters, and early 1920s vehicles.

It is a wonderful spot to spend an afternoon making memories together. Since doors are open Thursdays and Fridays from 10 AM to 4:30 PM, making a trip this Friday would be an easy option for an early Father's Day weekend outing!
