Hi neighbors,

Summer showed up fast this year.

Between the heat, the much-needed rain, and the lake levels being so low, it definitely feels like everyone around Lake Norman is already in full summer mode. We’re even starting to plan for our annual July 4th pool party, which is always memorable for one reason or another.

Lily and Gunnar are officially under contract on their first house, so this week has been full of inspections, quotes, and learning moments. One thing that surprised them was finding out how much more expensive homeowners insurance can get once a roof is over 10 years old. The furnace in the house was also older than Lily, so thankfully the seller agreed to replace it.

Watching them go through the process reminds me how much people don’t know the first time they buy a home, and honestly, most of us only learn by going through it ourselves.

On a completely different note, Stacey came back from Brazil inspired by all the fresh food she ate there, so we’ve been trying to eat a little healthier lately too. Lots more salmon, rice, and beans around our house this week.

The Gist: A fresh study from the Fishing Points app ranked Lake Norman as the second most photographed fishing lake in the entire country, trailing only Lake Tahoe. Researchers looked at 129 lakes across North America and found that our beautiful reservoir racked up 3.8 million tagged Instagram reels. We even beat out massive natural wonders like Lake Michigan and Lake Ontario, while our neighbors down the road at Lake Wylie secured a proud ninth place with 822,000 reels.

Why It Matters: For those of us who spend our weekends out on the water or just enjoying the sunset, it’s a wonderful reminder that the place we call home is officially one of the most loved and scenic spots in the nation.

The Gist: The Mooresville Downtown Commission earned the national Main Street America Accredited Community designation for the fifth consecutive year. Led by board chair Kim Saragoni, the organization was one of only 838 downtown programs in the U.S. to qualify for the 2026 honor. The top-tier award recognizes the local nonprofit's successful 2025 efforts in historic preservation, strategic planning, and economic development.

Why It Matters: Downtown Mooresville’s transformation into a thriving destination is a huge win for our local entrepreneurs and property owners. This five-year streak shows that our community's growth is being held to a rigorous national standard, keeping the heart and soul of our town vibrant and successful.

Harvey's in Huntersville has anchored the Vermillion neighborhood since 2009, creating an easygoing hangout where everyone eventually runs into someone they know. This summer, the outdoor balcony is the best seat in town for sipping a crisp Blueberry Sour Smash or tucking into Chef Oscar’s rich seafood fettuccine.

With the NBA playoffs heating up, the downstairs lounge is buzzing, especially with the new queso-topped Barbacoa Burrito special on deck.
