We went to the festival in downtown Mooresville Saturday night, and at some point I looked around at all the people and thought about how much this town has changed. I've lived around this area for a long time, and there was a time when downtown Mooresville wasn't exactly where you went on a Saturday night. There were some great businesses here, but it certainly didn't have the energy it has today. Saturday night was different. The streets were packed. There was live music, food, families everywhere, and people just hanging out and enjoying themselves. Stacey and I were there with Lily and Gunnar, and looking around at the crowd, it was hard not to appreciate what Mooresville has become.
And it's not just festivals. Downtown has added some really good restaurants and local businesses. Old buildings are getting new life. More people are actually coming downtown to eat, shop and spend an evening instead of simply driving through it. There's still plenty of growth around Lake Norman that I could probably do without. Traffic certainly comes to mind. But this is the good side of growth. Seeing a downtown become a place where thousands of people want to gather on a Saturday night is pretty cool. And I think sometimes when you live somewhere and watch it change little by little, you don't really notice how far it's come until a night like Saturday makes you stop and look around. So, credit where it's due. Mooresville has come a long way. And Saturday night, it was pretty great to see. |
🛏️ Volunteers build 223 beds for childrenThe Gist: The Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) teamed up with Lowe’s and Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build 223 beds. This annual project brought local moms and their teenage sons together to construct sturdy wooden frames for area youth who don't have a bed of their own. The effort was inspired by Jim Stovall’s book The Ultimate Gift. Why It Matters: Thanks to this effort, more than 200 local children will now have a bed to call their own. With nearly 2,000 beds delivered to date, our local chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace is moving one step closer to making sure no kid goes without a bed in our town. Pretty awesome stuff.
🛹 KidzNova is coming to HuntersvilleThe Gist: KidzNova will begin construction this month on a 15,000-square-foot indoor play venue at Vermillion Village. Owned by local resident, the family-focused space is scheduled to open in spring 2027. Why It Matters: Parents will soon have a new indoor option for kids to play, celebrate birthdays and burn off energy, with a supervised drop-off program available for children ages 5–12.
