Hi neighbors,
One of the goals of LKN Insider was simple: help people discover more of what makes our area special.
This week I was talking with Luca Handsman, who owns a local pet sitting business, and Ryan from Cabinet IQ. Both told me they've enjoyed finding new restaurants, events, and local businesses through the newsletter. Ryan even mentioned a restaurant from a recent issue that he wants to try.
That was encouraging to hear because supporting local businesses is one of the main reasons we started this newsletter in the first place.
We also hosted a gathering at the farm last week and one of my favorite moments was watching Bryan Lawson's son meet Estatan for the first time. Sometimes it's easy to forget that experiences which seem ordinary to us can be completely new and memorable for someone else.

Whether it's discovering a new restaurant, attending a local event, or simply trying something different around Lake Norman, I hope LKN Insider helps you do a little more of that.

🍎 Mooresville schools’ summer food and reading program

The Gist: Mooresville Graded School District has kicked off its summer meal program at Park View Elementary to support local kids through July 10. Children 18 and under can stop by for a completely free breakfast from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The school doors are open every weekday for these meals, except for the June 18 and July 6 holidays. Chief Communications Officer Tanae McLean noted that plenty of books are available on-site so families can read together while they eat.
Why It Matters: By pairing healthy meals with easy access to books, the district is taking a holistic, caring approach to supporting our community's families during the summer months.
🏆 Troutman honors hometown helpers
The Gist: Troutman Town Council named South Iredell High School coach Marcus Chambers as Citizen of the Year and the Exchange Club of Troutman as Organization of the Year. Town leaders also presented a proposed $24.1 million budget for fiscal year 2027, which keeps the property tax rate unchanged at 50 cents per $100 of assessed value.
Why It Matters: This is a sweet moment for Troutman. Coach Chambers and the Exchange Club both represent the people who keep showing up for local kids, schools, community events, and the small-town traditions that make this place feel connected.
