April snuck up on us fast, and apparently we celebrated by adding a few new members to the farm. Stacey and I picked up some baby chicks this week, and I have to say, it's hard to have a bad day when there are little chicks running around.

Spring at the Hastings farm is officially underway. Hope yours is just as good. Lots to get into this week!

🎨 A Masterpiece of a Month: April Is For Arts

The Gist: Get ready to get creative, because the April is for Arts celebration is officially taking over our neck of the woods for the entire month! The festivities really hit their stride in Davidson during the weekend of April 24-26, featuring the massive Gallery Crawl on Friday night and the Art on the Green festival, which brings over 30 regional artists to our local Village Green. From hands-on pendulum painting for the kiddos at Discovery Place Kids on April 11 to the 'Tawba Walk in Cornelius on April 25, there is a little something for every neighbor to enjoy.
Why It Matters: These events remind us that art is what makes Lake Norman feel like home. Plus, with local shops and restaurants staying open late for the crawl, it’s the perfect excuse to grab a drink, catch up with friends, and enjoy our walkable downtowns.
What's Next:
🎨 April 11: Get messy with pendulum painting at Discovery Place Kids.
🖼️ April 22: Check out the Herb Jackson Annual Student Art Show at Davidson College.
🚶 April 24: The Gallery Crawl kicks off downtown from 6-9pm.
🎶 April 25: The 'Tawba Walk Arts and Music Festival hits Cornelius, while Art on the Green runs in Davidson from 10am-5pm.
🎻 April 26: Wrap up the weekend with Art on the Green (12-4pm) and a free Concerts on the Green performance by the Davidson College Symphony from 6-8pm.
🚗 Revving Engines for a Great Cause in Troutman

The Gist: The Exchange Club of Troutman is gearing up for its Second Annual Cars for Kids show on Saturday, April 11, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This year, the event moves to a larger lot at the Career Academy and Technical School (CATS) to accommodate even more classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Entry is free for spectators, but if you want to show off your ride, registration is just $20 for cars and trucks or $10 for motorcycles, with an awards ceremony scheduled for 1:00 PM.
Why It Matters: Every dollar raised helps Pharos Parenting provide free child abuse prevention and family support services throughout our local counties. If you’re looking to get more involved long-term, the Exchange Club meets regularly on the first and third Thursday of the month at the Troutman Event Center.

🍷 Spring evenings and porch-side pours

100 Huntersville-Concord Rd, Huntersville
The Neighborhood Cafe is saying yes to the vibe as patio season officially takes center stage. With the weather warming up, the historic porch is the place to be, especially on Thursday evenings when prime rib specials debut alongside crisp, half-off bottles of wine.
Stopping by for a sunrise mimosa or a savory sunset dinner? This 75-year-old local landmark will feel like a natural extension of your own backyard!

🛶 Beyond the usual gear for local trails

227 Griffith St, Davidson
If you have been over to Sadler Square lately, you may have noticed Catawba River Outfitters pulling in a steady crowd of trail runners, kayakers, and weekend hikers.
They opened this Davidson location last October, bringing a curated mix of outdoor lifestyle and performance gear to the heart of town. The shelves carry brands like Vuori, Barbour, and Hoka.
Whether you are gearing up for the lake or need a reliable jacket, it is worth a stop while the square fills in so nicely.
