Hi neighbors,
One of the dangers of being around something every day is that you start to take it for granted.
This week I was carrying feed into the pasture and accidentally stepped on a horse's dinner. She immediately expressed her dissatisfaction by biting me square in the backside. The bruise is impressive.
The horse in the photo is Luma, and despite her sweet appearance, she reminded me that horses are large animals with strong opinions and very little patience when food is involved. Fortunately, my pride suffered more damage than anything else.
After all the rain we've had lately, it was nice to finally spend some time outside. The grass around the farm is green, the pool is finally looking better, and summer feels like it's officially here.

🔍 Scavenger Hunt Season is here!
The Gist: Our downtown areas are turning into giant game boards this summer! In Mooresville, the third annual "Find Normie" scavenger hunt is underway, with the elusive Lake Norman Monster hiding in 34 local businesses throughout June. Meanwhile, just down the road in Davidson, the famous "Where’s Waldo?" search kicks off on July 1, challenging residents to track down the striped adventurer across 33 local shops.
Why It Matters: These scavenger hunts are such a wonderful excuse to slow down, pop into favorite local shops, and enjoy the little downtown spots we sometimes rush past. Who doesn’t love a chance to snag a gift card or a new book while exploring our own backyard?

🛶 Rotary Club hosts magical day for foster families
The Gist: The Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club hosted its annual Foster Kids Day at the Lake on June 13 at Camp Dogwood in Sherrills Ford. This beautiful tradition was started over 15 years ago by the late Bob Hecht, and volunteers like Charlie Bohlen of the local nonprofit Speak Up for Children are keeping his legacy alive.
Why It Matters: For many of these local foster kids, a day out on the water is a rare luxury that goes way beyond a typical summer vacation. If you want to support this wonderful cause, keep an eye out for the Speak Up for Children bi-annual holiday tour of homes, which is tentatively scheduled for December 11.
