Stacey and I took a day trip to Dupont State Recreational Forest a few weeks ago. Somehow, after living in North Carolina my entire life, I'd never been there.

The waterfalls were incredible. Standing there, I found myself wondering how many places like that exist within a few hours of home that we keep meaning to visit "one day."

I'm guilty of it too. It's easy to spend months working, running errands, cutting the grass, and telling yourself you'll get around to exploring later. Then you realize another summer has almost slipped by.

One thing I appreciate about living around Lake Norman is that we're surrounded by great places. The mountains are close, the coast isn't far, and sometimes all it takes is getting out for a day to come back feeling like you were gone much longer.

If you've got a place in North Carolina you've been meaning to visit, maybe this is the summer to cross it off the list.

Have a great week!

🍷 Queen’s Feast restaurant week returns

The Gist: Charlotte Restaurant Week is back this summer from July 24 through August 2. Over 120 metro-area spots are offering three-course menus priced between $30 and $55 per person. Local spots like Peninsula Prime in Cornelius, Latitudes in Denver, and Davidson's new Fontana Di Vino are all joining in on the specials.

Why It Matters: If you have been looking for an excuse to skip cooking or try somewhere new, this is the perfect time to do it without breaking the bank. It’s a great way to support our neighborhood eateries during a traditionally slow summer season while getting a fancy night out at a much friendlier price point.

⛵ Lakeside Pointe continues taking shape

The Gist: Construction is moving forward at Lakeside Pointe, an 83-acre waterfront community off N.C. 150 in Sherrills Ford. The neighborhood will include roughly 215 homes, lake access along nearly a mile of shoreline, boat slips and the Beacon Club, a resident clubhouse with a pool terrace and wide lake views. Townhomes and waterfront homes are also part of the mix, while a future village area is planned for restaurants, shops and other businesses.

Why It Matters: Large stretches of undeveloped Lake Norman shoreline are increasingly hard to find, so this is a notable addition for Sherrills Ford. Beyond the new homes, the planned commercial area could eventually bring new dining, shopping and services closer to residents on this side of the lake.

🔥 Wood-fired favorites in Davidson

215 S Main St, Davidson

Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse sits at the fork of Main Street in Davidson, with much of the menu built around its wood-fired grill. Seasonal additions include Creole-spiced North Carolina catfish with smoked tomato sauce and a colorful black bean bowl for a lighter vegetarian option.

The rotating tap list is selected by a certified Cicerone, and wine lovers can look ahead to the Krupp Brothers wine dinner on August 19. The dog-friendly patio also has live music on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, making it an easy spot for dinner and a relaxed summer evening.

🛶 The easiest way to ditch dry land

5730 Neck Rd, Huntersville

Mountain Island Lake Paddle Co solves the one problem keeping us off the water: the gear. They meet you at Latta Plantation or Neck Road Boat Ramp with everything needed for a self-guided paddle. You just show up.

Sequoia, Susan, and the team make booking effortless. It is a quiet, wildlife-filled escape with fewer boats than Lake Norman. With stable boards and tandem options, July is perfect for a relaxing sunset float!
